This programme aims to improve the relationship between the boy and his family of origin or significant others as well as establish and maintain good relations between Khayalethu, the external social worker and family of the boy concerned.  Within this programme, the social worker liaises closely with the external social workers of the various boys as well as famlies.  The programme entails the following:

  • Weekend and holiday screenings and placements, inclusive of
    • Provision of food parcels during holidays
    • Khayalethu transport to family residence
    • Provision of taxi fair to family residence
  • Home visits twice per year
  • Family conferences
  • Section 159 reviews
  • Telephonic contacts with family
  • Traditional committee of Khayalethu responsible for liaison with extended family regarding the initiation process of eligible boys

During 2014, the Social worker conducted home visits in Somerset-East, Humansdorp, Hankey, Port Alfred, Graaff-Reinet, Jansenville and within the Nelson Mandela Bay.  Although these visits increase the financial strain on the Centre, the oppertunity to share positive experiences with the families via photos and conversations, increase the overall positive development and participation of the boy within the programmes.
